Greetings!
Green tea facial cleansers, they can be found in almost every one of our favorite skincare lines such as Paula’s Choice, Naturium, Youth to the People, And 100% Pure to name a few. But what’s the benefit to including tea into your skin routine? Well, according to a peer review article published under the National Center for Biotechnology Information, “there is some evidence that tea polyphenols [polyphenols are antioxidant molecules found in foods like nuts, fruits, vegetables, etc.] In topical formulation may be beneficial in reducing sebum secretion and in treatment of acne,” (Saris, Notay, Raja, 2016). In other words when applied to the skin, tea based skincare products can help people who struggle with acne and oily skin.
Full disclosure: if one does have acne or oily skin, it can’t be solved with a simple green tea cleanser (although it can help). For a long term and most effective solution it may be beneficial to see the dermatologist as often acne and oily skin are linked with other health related issues such as hormone imbalances. Once you identify the true cause of your skin condition, you can really see desired results.
Any who, back to tea cleansers, thanks to A Hint of Beauty’s generosity, I was given the opportunity to review Green Tea Cloud Foam Cleanser by 100% Pure. For those of you who love to build a globally conscious and cruelty-free beauty routine, this is the skin line for you.
100% Pure formulates products that are cruelty-free, naturally pigmented, and adhere to purity standards (hence the name 100% Pure). They use natural sources such as plants, minerals, and marine vegetation to create the ultimate clean skincare experience. According to www.100percentpure.com, their top sellers currently are the Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, Coffee Bean Face Cream, (hint..hint…coffee is great for combating dark under eyes) and Lavender Niacinamide Pore Minimizer Tonique, respectively.
The 100% Pure Green Tea Cloud Foam Cleanser can be great for people with oily and combination skin due to the following three reasons:
1. It is a Foam cleanser - Foam cleansers have often been recommended for those with an oily skin type. However, foam cleansers (ie:surfactants) can damage the skin barrier based on their formulations in the product (Walters, Mao, et al, 2012). Please be aware of that as you try a foaming cleanser. The skincare journey is based on trial and error. As stated previously, foaming cleansers are largely recommended for those with oily skin. If the foaming cleanser you tried is drying your skin or causing redness, that means you disrupted your skin barrier and need to find ways to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. I would step away from the product for a little while and assessing if you want to use it sparingly or try something new altogether. Most importantly, you must be knowledgeable on what type of skin you have so that you customize your products to fit your needs and not further exacerbate problems you may have on your skin.
2. Green tea ingredient-known for decreasing redness/oil secretion. As referenced above, studies have seen a link between using products with molecules found in tea and reduced oil/redness.
3. Clean ingredients-100% Pure uses clean ingredients in this product such as aloe Vera, calendula, and natural green tea flavor which are calming to the skin and not likely to cause skin irritation. Again, it’s important to note if you are experiencing redness or irritation. Whatever product you use, I suggest the “patch test” to ensure you’re using a product that is right for you.
As far as experience goes, when lathering up with the Green Tea Cleanser, I was shocked to find the foam so…bubbly! It even tickled! Note, it tickled NOT tingled, if you feel a tingling sensation RUN because that is not a good sign. As I was saying… The Green Tea Cleanser had such a good lather that it actually tickled. Also, it smelled absolutely delicious like the tea my mother used to grow in her garden, I found it to be so relaxing and comforting for that reason alone. The scent was identifiable but not overbearing like other products, which tends to give me a headache. However, this was not the case when using the Green tea Foam Cleanser, 100% Pure really did stay true to the name.
As a true skin care junkie, I have used this product for weeks consistently and found that it yields best results on a clean face. Meaning, it’s best to use it as the second step to a double cleansing routine. If you have dry skin like I do, this product can be a little drying due to all the lovely foaminess. So again, I’d really recommend it for those who have oily skin. I’d also like to point out that it did minimize redness in my T-zone, which was the most exciting part of this experience for me in terms of the results, as it’s usually hard for me to fight against those flare-ups that I get.
Overall, I will continue to use this product sparingly due to my dry skin type. I’ll continue to use it after working a sweat in the gym and every so often for the spa like experience. There are various products out there that can be for you, you just have to use it right and listen to your body. I hope you found this helpful!
With love,
Mandy
