Hello!
I was in need of a new eyeliner and had this Stila eye liner in my Sephora cart. I have a tendency not to look at reviews before buying products, and wish I had before purchasing. I love Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner and their Smudge Stick Eyeliner. This cushion eye liner just wasn't my cup of tea.
It retails for $28 and has 0.1 oz of product. I got mine in the shade "Black Obsidian." Stila claims the product is smudge proof, water proof, and long wearing. I used all kinds of brushes for this eyeliner, but this formula isn't good.
I like the cushion idea behind this product. When it is applied it seems like a liquid eyeliner at first and is a bit watery. The color dried down to a black matte finish. That is where the problems begin. It drys really quickly and then flakes off when the second coat is applied.
I spent about 10-15 minutes trying to get the eyeliner perfect. No matter what brushes I used it would start flaking off on the second coat. I also had to keep dipping into the pot because the eyeliner dried quickly on the lid and my brush. There isn't even a lot of product to begin with.
It does look somewhat nice when you can get it right. I didn't have any problems with it smudging or not being water proof. Those claims do seem to be true. I wouldn't classify it as being long wearing though. The product begins to fade after four or five hours.
The picture below shows how the eyeliner has come off after a 2nd coat.
I'd purchase this if they would reformulate it. The color is nice, but I can't stand the product coming off when I try to go over the line. It's also a little pricey for only 0.1 oz of product. I'll be sticking to Stila's other eyeliner products.

Awh man, I see these all the time when I go to Sephora and wanted to pick up a shade so thanks for the heads up! That's way too pricy for a sub-par product so I think I'll skip them, hopefully they do end up doing a reformulation soon.

Glad you saw this before purchasing! The colors are really pretty but not worth the trouble.
DeleteI tend to do the same thing, I'll purchase things without reading a review. Sucks this isn't that great. Maybe they will reformulate it.

You're welcome! It does suck. :/
DeleteSo sorry this didn't work for you, doll. Thanks for the warning. Do you typically prefer to use a brush to apply eye liner? I can recommend a liquid liner that's matte and wonderful for your upper lash line, if you like the ones in a pot. Let me know.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't typically use a brush. I usually use liquid liner pens. Sure! Which is it?:)
DeleteIt's called the Sephora High Precision Liner. I got mine in black. This one is not waterproof but they do make one that is, just in case that's your preference. They also have colors as well, but if you look online, this particular one is listed on its own. On me, it doesn't crack, flake or fade. It dries matte black and lasts all day and it's my absolute favorite of all time, so far. You're welcome to do a search on my blog for that product to get an idea of what it looks like applied. That way you will know if it could be something you are interested in. If you try it out, let me know what you think.

Too bad this didn't work out for you! I'm not sure if I've ever seen these before, but a cushion liner does sound interesting! I'm horrible at applying liners with a brush or gel ones so I'm sure I wouldn't be able to get this to look right lol!
ReplyDeleteThe idea is interesting, but the product wasn't. Really? I always love your eyeliner!
DeleteSUCH BLIND FAITH 😂 I love reading reviews for almost every thing I buy since I'm cheap and interested in how people use the products, haha
ReplyDeleteHow about drawing the wing with a liquid liner, and using this product stamped on to fill in the lines?
Thanks. I'll try that! I also love reading reviews.
DeleteThis seemed off to me, too. It looks like caviar! LOL. You have such nice long bottom lashes!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, not their best product. Aw, thank you! :)
